1st YORIAU Symposium
YORIAILab 1st Anniversary Seminar
Co-creation with patient communities in the digital age
- Values, challenges, and future vision of online communities for people with disabilities -
Purpose of the symposium
In today's rapidly advancing, highly digitalized society, the nature of patient communities is also changing significantly. In addition to traditional analogue health communication, virtual health communication has become widespread, and digital tools have become more widely accepted by patients and citizens as a more active medium. In the field of drug development, discussions on patient participation have developed rapidly, and various examples of practice have begun to accumulate. Activities to collect patient experiences more systematically and link them to the development of drugs that meet patient needs are deepening. In order to treat so-called patient experience data as evidence and utilize it for decision-making at various stages of healthcare, it is necessary to gradually and continuously build data through co-creation with patients.
In light of this situation, we believe that the time has come to provide a forum for thorough discussion of the usefulness, challenges, and future of "online communities for those affected," which have been developing in recent years as a health communication tool, and have therefore decided to hold the first "More Together Symposium."

program
15:10~ Keynote speech by Kento Asano
Osaka University Hospital Department of Future Medical Development
This presentation will focus on the evolution of clinical trials in the digital age and the role of patient communities. Patient communities are no longer just a place for information exchange; they have evolved into communities of practice where patients learn from each other and influence the healthcare system. The spread of digital tools has expanded their functions, and while online information sharing and empowerment have progressed, issues such as representativeness and quality of information remain. In particular, international examples such as "PatientsLikeMe" provide significant insights into the realization of patient-centered healthcare. In addition, the use of "Patient Experience Data (PED)," which digitizes patients' subjective experiences, and the introduction of DCT (Decentralized Clinical Trials), which reduces the burden of patient visits, have expanded the possibility of patients' voices improving the quality of clinical research. In the future, we will need an era in which all stakeholders, including patients, can solve problems through co-creation and build better healthcare together.

16:00~ Panel discussion
Five community organizers will exchange opinions on the role of patient communities in a digital society, the value of their evolution, and the potential for co-creating data with patients by utilizing the "patient voices" that can be obtained from them.
