We will begin considering actions to systematically utilize patient experience data (Patient Experience Data, or empirical knowledge) in the development of new treatments and in decision-making in clinical settings. We will be livestreaming a discussion between Hayley Chapman, an international leader in the Overseas PFMD discussion of this issue, and participants from various perspectives. (The discussion will be in English, but simultaneous translation into Japanese will be provided during the livestream.)

About the event

The purpose of this meeting:

  • Understand what Patient Experience Data (PED) is for medical decision-making and the significance of Patient Engagement (PE) in ensuring the value of PED.

  • Learn about the latest international discussions, including the concept of fit-for-purpose PEDs, and practical examples from various stages of healthcare.

  • Taking into account the current state of Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) in Japan, we will explore the opportunities and challenges of utilizing PEDs.

  • The first step in systematic implementation is to prioritize areas of focus.

  • Define the roles and goals of PED efforts in Japan and clarify the people (promoters) who should be involved in ongoing discussions.

  • What is Patient Experience Data (PED)?

The concept of PED, including fit-for-purpose PED

The significance of patient participation

Use of the Global PED Navigator Tool

  • The current state of patient and public involvement (PPI) in Japan (including the case of PED)

Overview - Current Status and Trends

Situation in each field (pharmaceutical companies, regulations, health technology assessment (HTA), medical professionals and academia, patient communities, medical policy, etc.)

  • Identify areas where you see initial opportunities for implementing a systematic approach and areas where you see significant challenges to address immediately.

  • Towards continued discussions in the future

Launching a new project

Short-term goals and future steps (considering planning for PEOF+ Asia Pacific [scheduled for April 2026])
